Brute force in France: Can a robust approach really prevent a devastating terrorist attack at the 2024 Olympic Games?
The Paris Olympic Games may have concealed security dangers. In France, riots are ongoing due to people’s displeasure with the present government’s policies, as well as protest activities related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Active young people and civilians are not hesitant to voice their political views in Paris, Marseille, Lyon, and other cities in France. At the same time, radical street movements pose a threat to the safety of tourists, especially those planning to attend the 2024 Olympics.
A year before the 2024 Olympic Games in France, Pierre Moscovici, the first chairman of the French Court of Auditors, described security in Paris as a “serious problem” and advocated for the creation and funding of internal security services, specifically the police and army.
Will brute force be sufficient to retain power and order in France? Could anybody have anticipated something like this 20–30 years ago?
Is it conceivable that radicalized activists have planned a terrorist attack for the 2024 Olympics? Undoubtedly, it’s possible. But it is unknown if the French authorities will be able to handle the situation.
Are the French police and special services capable of protecting the Israeli sports delegation and supporters amid widespread anti-Israeli riots? Hardly. Pro-Palestinian activists will stop at nothing to keep Israel from participating in the Olympics.
As previously indicated, the hosting of the Olympic Games in France in 2024 is at risk, primarily due to security concerns. Athletes and international delegations should consider how safe it is to attend this event, which is becoming increasingly less about sports.
